SAMAST

In December we sent out our final newsletter for 2020, updating our supporters on all that had miraculously been achieved - despite impossible odds - by our dedicated SA.MAST Animal Clinic team. A heartfelt message of gratitude to all those who have supported and championed our work in Khayelitsha was included. If you missed the newsletter, please click here.

2021 has not miraculously swept away the uncertainties of the previous year. We continue to work tirelessly in improving the lives of our community members, both animal and human. We continue to assess the growing risk factors here at the clinic, and in the broader community of Khayelitsha.

Shacks built in 2020 and which now completely surround our clinic, hospital and small shelter could catch alight at any moment.

At the end of 2020, we indicated that we were working with industry professionals to bring together a communication and activation campaign that would highlight both the vital importance of the continuation of our work, and the crisis that is now baring down on us. Aside from the continued and growing focus on our key work at the clinic and our outreach programmes, this campaign is now front and centre for our staff and the contracted team.

Now, more than ever, we need our donors and supporters, and all stakeholders, to assist us in mitigating an ever-growing list of risk factors. Whilst the uncertainties of 2021 threaten to work against many of us, in all sectors of life, we won’t give up on our community, and we know that you won’t give up on us. Here’s to holding together through another challenging year.

A WISH LIST TO MAKE CARING FOR OUR PATIENTS A LITTLE EASIER FOR US

Veterinary medication and consumable bills continue to climb, but at least we are where we need to be, saving and improving tens of thousands of lives. For example, our minimum mass sterilisation goal for the next ten months is 2500 patient collections - our programme kicked off again on the 18th of January and we’ve already performed 275 spay and neuter procedures.

We also run a full-time clinic, hospital and animal ambulance service.
